ATS to Deploy Next Generation Wireless Network

This summer, Academic Technology Services will begin to deploy the next generation wireless network in a number of buildings across campus. This new network will feature 802.11n technology with speeds up to 300Mbps, roughly 6 times faster than MSU's current wireless equipment. Clients with 802.11a/b/g cards will still be able to access the new wireless network but will not be able to take advantage of the higher speed. To utilize the higher speeds offered by 802.11n, users will need a wireless card that supports 802.11n within the 5GHz frequency.

This new generation of wireless equipment will also have the ability to support a greater number of users per access point. The current wireless equipment supports roughly 20 users per access point, the new equipment will increase this to roughly 50 users per access point.

The following buildings will be covered:

  • Berkey Hall
  • Bessey Hall
  • Biomedical Physical Sciences
  • Human Ecology
  • Natural Sciences
  • Wells Hall

Departments that wish to have wireless service installed can fill out the service request.
