ATS to Deploy Next Generation Wireless Network

In summer 2008, Academic Technology Services began to deploy the next generation wireless network in a number of buildings across campus. This new network features 802.11n technology with speeds up to 300Mbps, roughly 6 times faster than MSU's current wireless equipment. Clients with 802.11a/b/g cards will still be able to access the new wireless network but will not be able to take advantage of the higher speed. To utilize the higher speeds offered by 802.11n, users will need a wireless card that supports 802.11n within the 5GHz frequency.

This new generation of wireless equipment have the ability to support up to 50 users per access point.

Departments that wish to have wireless service installed can fill out the service request.

If you have any questions please contact the ATS Help Desk at 517-432-6200.
